A website everyone can use
Demo School wants every parent, pupil and visitor to be able to read and use this website, whatever device or assistive technology they use. Here is what we do, what falls short, and how to tell us.
Our commitment
Demo School wants this website to be usable by everyone, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, magnify the page, or find movement on screen difficult. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we keep working towards it.
What this website does
- Every page has one clear title and headings in order, so a screen reader can move through it.
- Every photograph carries a text description.
- Text is real text, not pictures of text, so it can be enlarged, reflowed and read aloud. Pages reflow to fit a phone held upright and to large text settings.
- Colours used for text are checked for contrast against their background.
- Links and buttons say where they go and can be reached with the Tab key.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, the website turns its animations off.
- Forms label every field and say which are required.
- Videos are embedded from services that provide captions and keyboard controls.
Where we may fall short
- Documents we upload, such as PDF newsletters, forms and timetables, may not be fully accessible. Ask us and we will send the information in another form.
- Maps and videos come from other companies' services, and their players are outside our control.
- Some older photographs and pages brought over from our previous website may have short descriptions. We improve them as we find them.
